NORSTA Maritime Wins DTC Teaming Award

7 November 2022

Our RMP North East – NORSTA Maritime and its subcontractors in Cairns – were recently recognised at the Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) Defence Industry Awards on 3 November 2022 in Adelaide. They were awarded the Teaming Award for outstanding collaboration between organisations in helping reshape naval sustainment under the RMP contract.

‘Team NORSTA’, which comprises NORSTA Maritime, Tropical Reef Shipyard (TRS), Norship, Nova Systems (Nova) and SECORA Australasia (SECORA) is the RMP for RMC North East in Cairns. Team NORTSA has been operating for almost a year now – and is a 100% Australian owned and controlled Australian Maritime business. They were well integrated with Defence industry even prior to winning the RMP contract, and have been actively involved in informing and shaping infrastructure development to meet future sustainment needs as well as collaborating to develop the future workforce. Olav Groot, CEO of Norship, said he was very proud of the achievement.

“It is a fantastic result that recognises that a 100 per cent Australian owned and controlled collaborative team can successfully deliver sustainment services to Defence at scale, especially across Northern Australia,” he said. Rob Downing, General Manager of TRS added that it was a great result for the team.

“The award recognises nationally that regional Australia – especially the City of Cairns – has the capability and supply chain to maintain vessels equal with the best of them,” he said.

Stewart Barr, General Manager of NORSTA Maritime, said the award clearly demonstrated that the unique collaborative approach was effective and efficient and already reshaping the sustainment model for the Royal Australian Navy Fleet.

Congratulations to Team NORSTA! It is great to see our industry partners recognised for the good work they are doing to help realise Plan Galileo and its benefits. We look forward to seeing what our partnership with Team NORSTA in 2023 will bring.
